BREAKING: Lagos Court in Shambles As Leaky Roof During Rainfall Disrupts Sitting, Sends Lawyers Scrambling To Protect Documents

A shocking video obtained by SaharaReporters reveals the dire situation, with basins scattered throughout the courtroom to catch water dripping from the leaking roof. Lawyers were seen scrambling to protect their critical court documents from the water damage.

An Ikeja Customary Court in Lagos State is in shambles after a light rainstorm caused chaos, disrupting proceedings and leaving a trail of damage.

A shocking video obtained by SaharaReporters reveals the dire situation, with basins scattered throughout the courtroom to catch water dripping from the leaking roof. Lawyers were seen scrambling to protect their critical court documents from the water damage.

This incident highlights the dire need for infrastructure upgrades in Lagos State’s judiciary system.

The rain caused the roof of one of the courtrooms to leak, disrupting proceedings and forcing the dismissal of litigants and their lawyers. The chaotic scene was captured on video and shared with SaharaReporters, showcasing the challenges faced by courts in the country, including its commercial hub, Lagos.

This isn’t an isolated issue, as many courts in Nigeria struggle with inadequate infrastructure, including leaky roofs, outdated facilities, and insufficient resources.

“Despite the local government’s renovation efforts on few infrastructure, the customary court’s roof remains unattended to, sparking concerns about priorities,” the source lamented.

According to the source who shared video and photos of the court, the ugly situation is not only about the physical structure but also the administration of justice.

“Customary courts, like the one in Ikeja, play a vital role in resolving disputes, especially for the common man, as they are the cheapest form of resolving disputes.

“However, the poor condition of the court and alleged corruption within the court process can undermine trust in the justice system,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the neglect of the customary court’s infrastructure raises questions about the government’s commitment to justice and accountability.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for urgent reform and investment in Nigeria’s justice system.
