On Tuesday, 2nd December 2025, The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu officially nominates Christopher Gbawin Musa (rtd) as the new Defense Minister. This is as a result of the resignation of the current Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, on Monday, 1st December, 2025, citing health reasons.
The nomination of this retired service‑chief as Defence Minister signals a new phase for Nigeria. One that attempts to swap politics for professionalism, and symbolism for strategy as Musa is quite experienced.
Under His leadership as Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), the Armed Forces intensified operations against insurgent and extremist groups, aiming to restore security in volatile areas. He promoted defence diplomacy by strengthening collaboration with regional and international partners for peacekeeping, migration management, and transnational security cooperation. He engaged with traditional rulers, community leaders, and civil society to foster trust, unity, and cooperation; he welcomed groups such as the Northern Bridge Builders Forum to discuss peace initiatives and local‑level engagement. Advocated for unity, professionalism, and patriotism within the military, urging soldiers to remain resolute in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty, even after his retirement.
Evidently, Christopher Musa (rtd) is competent and Nigeria is set to feel it.
