In November 2024, Nie Pengcheng, former chief technology expert at 01.AI, joined BYD Advanced Technology Research and Development Center. He will be mainly responsible for AI supercomputing and may also be involved in AI applications.
To quickly enhance its capabilities, BYD chose to recruit experienced technical talents from large companies. Nie Pengcheng graduated in 2013 and has been working in the field of AI computing for nearly 12 years. He has experience in managing large-scale computing resources, developing foundational models, and participating in the development of AI applications.
In November 2024, BYD announced that it will invest 100 billion yuan in the development of artificial intelligence combined with automotive intelligent technology to achieve comprehensive vehicle intelligence advancement and win the future technological discourse power.
The Advanced Technology Research and Development Center is a primary department of BYD’s R&D stronghold, the New Technology Research Institute, established at the end of September 2024. This center will provide computing power, algorithms, and support for large models to departments within the BYD Group such as intelligent driving, intelligent cockpit, dual-mode technology etc., serving as a ‘technology platform’ to accelerate research and development of intelligent-related technologies and business implementation.
Insiders revealed that BYD’s Advanced Technology Research and Development Center will involve almost all popular large models in the industry, including base models, multimodal large models, language large models, visual large models etc., with some being developed internally while others are done in collaboration with other departments.
