BYD Teases Game-Changing EV Flagships: Han L and Tang L Set for April 9 Launch

BYD, China’s leading electric vehicle maker, is gearing up to unveil its next-generation flagship EVs — the Han L sedan and Tang L SUV — with a bold promise to “redefine the high-end smart EV experience.” In a teaser video released on April 6, the company showcased both vehicles’ sleek new design language and cutting-edge performance specs, positioning the launch as one of its most ambitious to date.

The two models will be officially introduced at a global event on April 9. According to BYD, both vehicles are built on a new 1000V high-voltage platform — a significant leap in the brand’s drivetrain and charging architecture. Early specs hint at acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just over 2 seconds, and ultra-fast charging capabilities that add 400 kilometers of range in just 5 minutes, rivaling even the most premium offerings in the global EV market.

Dubbed as the “Double Flagship,” the Han L and Tang L are expected to be the most technologically advanced passenger EVs in BYD’s Dynasty and Warship lineups. The teaser video revealed key innovations such as an “intelligent body control system,” likely featuring active suspension, and “ultra-high RPM” electric motors — performance specs typically reserved for supercars.

The Han L and Tang L are also expected to ship with BYD’s next-gen DiPilot autonomous driving suite, and heavily upgraded cockpit experiences, including a rumored collaboration with NVIDIA or Huawei for AI-powered infotainment. While BYD has not confirmed full hardware specs yet, insiders suggest a new class of blade batteries with enhanced thermal efficiency and durability may be part of the package.

Pre-sale prices for both models have already been listed on major Chinese EV platforms, with the Han L starting around ¥270,000 ($37,300) and the Tang L at ¥360,000 ($49,700), positioning them as competitive contenders against Tesla’s Model S and Model X in China and abroad.

As BYD continues its rapid global expansion — with recent entries into markets such as the UK, Thailand, and Mexico — the Han L and Tang L could signal the brand’s strongest bid yet to challenge global incumbents in the high-performance EV space.
