Against the backdrop of slowing growth in the main business of automotive power batteries, CATL is actively seeking new growth points. LatePost revealed that CATL has set up a team in Shanghai to independently develop industrial robots and plans to invest in humanoid robot companies. At the same time, it is also focusing on cutting-edge technologies such as room-temperature superconductors and controlled nuclear fusion.
According to the report from LatePost, CATL has established a team of dozens of people in Shanghai, focusing on the research and development of robot body, control, and human-machine interaction algorithms, planning to manufacture industrial robots such as robotic arms and AGVs.
Insiders said that the CATL robot team is currently mainly researching motion control algorithms, perception algorithms, and human-machine interaction algorithms for industrial robots. The preliminary plan is to design and manufacture complete industrial robots for use in their own battery factories.
CATL has been increasing its investment in the field of robotics since the end of last year. They have conducted research on some humanoid robot companies but have not yet clarified their research and development plans for humanoid robots. However, CATL plans to invest in humanoid robot companies for financial purposes. They have already been in contact with Galaxy Universal among other companies and plan to invest in a company manufacturing humanoid robot bodies.
In addition to the field of robotics, sources say that recently CATL has also been trying to contact startups in areas such as room-temperature superconductors and controlled nuclear fusion. This Chinese technology manufacturing giant with a market value exceeding one trillion yuan is showing even greater ambitions in deploying cutting-edge technologies.
