CEAT Tyres is a tyre manufacturing business that can produce more than 140,000 tyres per day across it’s 6 manufacturing plants.
Producing tyres for brands like Audi, Kia, BMW, MG, Mercedes, Jeep, Volvo and more, the company is looking for ways to automate its operations.
In a new video shared by the Chairman of parent company RPG Enterprises, we see CEAT deploying autonomous vehicles in their Mumbai plant.
This autonomous vehicle is responsible for moving a trailer full of large tyres between locations, helping reduce operational costs (ignore the 3 workers watching their job disappear).
Asked in the comments if this is remote controlled, or automated, Goenka replied to confirm its being driven with AI.
Known as the AMR 50 from Virya.ai, this rugged and powerfull autonomous robot is designed to tow payloads of up to 5,000kg. The robot can handle move at a max of 11km/hr and handle up to an 8% grade.
Thanks 1x 3D LiDAR, 1x 2D LiDAR a 6-axis IMU and 1x Depth Camera, the robot has a 360 view of the environment around it and help to navigatethe world around it safely, avoiding obstacles and keeping people safe.
The 300 Ah battery is good for around 3,000 cycles.
According to LinkedIn, the Indian-based Virya has just 11-50 employees.
This is a great reminder that not all the autonomous vehicle development occurs in the United States and China, there’s plenty happening around the world.
