Chris Brown Sues Warner Bros. Discovery For $500M Over Sexual Assault Claims In Documentary

Chris Brown has filed a $500 million lawsuit against Warner Bros., Ample, and the producers of the docuseries Chris Brown: A History of Violence, accusing them of defamation and emotional distress. The October 2024 series, aired on Investigation Discovery, portrays the singer as a “serial rapist” and “sexual abuser” and features allegations from multiple women, including one accuser, Jane Doe, who claims Brown raped her in 2020. Brown’s legal team denies the accusations, asserting that Doe has been discredited in the past.

They also point out that a related lawsuit she filed in 2022 was dismissed after text messages revealed inconsistencies in her story.

The lawsuit alleges the documentary prioritized profit over truth, ignoring journalistic ethics and repackaging old accusations with falsehoods, despite being provided evidence to the contrary. Brown argues the series has damaged his career and business opportunities, undermining his decade-long efforts to rebuild his reputation following his 2009 guilty plea for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna.

Brown’s attorneys claim the producers knowingly released a misleading narrative, disregarding his personal growth and the harm it could cause to his reputation. They also argue that the documentary harms the credibility of genuine survivors of violence by amplifying false claims.

The singer is seeking $500 million in damages and a jury trial, accusing the defendants of defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and unauthorized use of his name and likeness for promotional purposes. His attorney, Levi McCathern, emphasized the importance of protecting the truth and holding media outlets accountable for spreading false and defamatory information.
