CoD anti-cheat team admits it ‘missed the mark’ as hacker complaints continue

Here’s hoping the Ricochet Team can clear many of the cheatersCall of Duty players have it pretty good right now between Black Ops 6 being a fantastic all-around package and Warzone seeing fresh content for Season 1 Reloaded. But if there’s one thing sure to spoil their good time, it’s a hacker.

Cheaters are sadly pretty commonplace, most notably in Warzone which is free-to-play, so bans lack any real consequence. That’s led to numerous complaints over the years (including one from a Call of Duty Pro earlier this week) that the Ricochet team, set up to combat cheaters across Call of Duty, isn’t doing enough – despite regular bans.

Thankfully, the devs are aware that they need to do more, admitting so in a fresh blog post.

“We understand the promise of glory and notoriety from Ranked Play leaderboards makes Ranked Play an attractive target for cheaters. For this reason, our teams have been especially focused on turning the tide to deliver the competitive arena our players seek.”

Bans continue hourly now, and leaderboards are being cleared of cheaters much more quickly, while it’s continuing to train AI to spot cheaters.

“In the last several weeks, the Replay tool updates have been highly effective at validating detections and reports, providing further training for AI systems for the anti-cheat team, and removing cheaters,” the blog says.

The team also says Season 2 and Season 3 will introduce additional anti-cheat updates including kernel-level drivers and server-side protections. Here’s hoping things improve.
