Prepare Your Bait for Desktop Fishing
Berlin-based indie studio Ostend Games has revealed the official release date for its debut title, Desktop Fishing. This relaxed and whimsical idle game will arrive on PC (Windows) on June 17, 2025. In the meantime, players can explore the updated demo, now live on Steam.
The team originally began Desktop Fishing as a side project, but strong support from an engaged community encouraged them to expand it. Over the past six months, the four friends behind Ostend Games, who met during their game design studies, have developed the game into a polished and content-rich experience.
“It was really important to us to preserve the relaxing nature of fishing,” says developer Hagen from Ostend Games. “We didn’t want the game to distract from what players are actually doing on their PC – but rather to offer a sense of calm and subtle progression when they’re looking for a break.”
Desktop Fishing introduces a unique concept: a small frog companion sits on the edge of your screen and quietly fishes while you continue with your daily computer tasks. As the frog catches fish, you collect in-game currency, which you can use to unlock a wide range of customization items. You can also take on quests, level up, and explore new fishing regions—all while your frog keeps working in the background.
The developers designed the game with hand-painted 2D visuals and calming ambient sounds to blend smoothly into your workflow. They included Twitch integration so streamers can engage with their chat in real time. The game also offers flexible interaction: you can choose to reel in fish yourself or let the frog handle everything while you stay focused.
With its peaceful atmosphere and gentle pacing, Desktop Fishing gives you a charming companion and a relaxing way to break up the day.
