Deutsche Telekom shared more details about its AI Phone at MWC 2025. The T-Mobile parent company previously teased the AI Phone as a concept at last year’s MWC. We now get confirmation that the device will be powered by Perplexity AI and it is set to officially launch in the second half of this year with plans to roll out to key European markets in 2026.
The AI Phone will boot a custom Magenta AI operating system which replaces the traditional app-based user interface with Perplexity Assistant. The device relies on multimodal input – you can use your voice or type out your requests or use the cameras to search.
The premise is that you can tell the AI Phone to do anything you’d normally do on your smartphone without jumping between apps like translating text or speech, booking appointments, sending out emails or online shopping.
The AI Phone relies on the Perplexity Assistant for most tasks but Deutsche Telekom confirmed the device is also getting integration with Google Cloud AI, Gemini Multimodal Live API, ElevenLabs, and Picsart this summer. Deutsche Telekom also confirmed it will integrate the AI features inside the MeinMagenta app, which is available on Google Play.
