Digi Yatra will soon support regional and international languages

As reported earlier, Digi Yatra was introduced by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to make terminal entry and security clearance in the airport seamless. With this initiative, people have the option to go for paperless travel and enhance their travel experience. With time, this initiative was incorporated in all the major airports in the country.

Now, as per the latest development, to ensure smooth passage through checkpoints for everyone, it will soon be available in both regional and international languages. This is as per an announcement by a senior official. As per the records, Digi Yatra is currently operational at 24 airports, and if all goes as planned, the initiative is anticipated to expand to an additional 4-5 airports in the upcoming months.

Referring to this, Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of the Digi Yatra Foundation, mentioned during the CAPA India Digital Aviation Summit in the national capital that a pilot project is expected to launch by June next year, connecting two countries through Digi Yatra. This pilot will allow foreign nationals visiting the country, use the Digi Yatra system. This will also mark a significant step towards international integration.

Khadakbhavi also stated that a campaign will soon be initiated to raise awareness among passengers regarding the said facility. Despite the gradual acceptance of Digi Yatra, there have been concerns regarding passenger data privacy. In response, the foundation is committed to addressing these issues while expanding the service’s accessibility in multiple languages.

Digi Yatra operates on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT), enabling a contactless and seamless flow of passengers at airports. Established as a not-for-profit organisation, the Digi Yatra Foundation serves as the primary authority overseeing the initiative, which was launched in December 2022. Its shareholders comprise various airport authorities, including the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL), Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (HIAL), and Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL).

By prioritising user experience and easing the travel process, Digi Yatra aims to set a new standard in airport operations while ensuring that passenger safety and data privacy remain top priorities.
