Driving Dreams: New Golf Training Centre
BISS also opened a brand new Golf Training Centre earlier this year—a state-of-the-art facility featuring two hitting bays equipped with the latest Garmin R50 simulators, as well as a large putting green for practice.
School Principal, Andrew Lancaster, gave an opening speech, followed by a session with professional golfer, Jovick Lee (PGA Coach), who gave the children a lecture on using the cutting-edge equipment, sparking excitement among budding golfers.
The event also marked the official launch of the BISS Golf Team, led by Captain Edison from Year 8. The team represented BISS at the FOBISIA Golf Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand, back in March.
BISS x Nord Anglia STEAM Bootcamp Boosts MIT Collaboration
This month, BISS hosted a STEAM Bootcamp with three other schools as part of its collaboration with MIT.
The event was a celebration of STEAM subjects—connecting students with hands-on challenges and building creativity and problem-solving skills in exciting, real-world contexts.
Each activity was designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and resilience. Working in mixed-school teams, the students rotated through five fast-paced challenge stations:
Designing protective structures for an egg-drop
Building water filtration systems
Constructing bridges using magnets
Creating light-up LED cards
And getting hands-on with Arduino microcontrollers to learn basic coding
Tanzania Expedition
Earlier in the year, British International School Shanghai students travelled to Tanzania, where they immersed themselves in cultural exploration, meaningful community work, and adventurous activities.
One group began their journey at the Kahawa coffee center, learning about coffee cultivation and tasting unique flavors, followed by a camping experience, where they pitched tents and cooked meals together.
Their community work included building a goat shed and installing solar lights for a local family, showcasing teamwork and dedication.
The trip ended with reflective discussions and a two-day safari in Tarangire National Park, where they encountered majestic wildlife like lions, elephants, and giraffes under the starlit sky.
A second group focused on constructing a primary school, laying foundations, building walls, and making desks. Through their labor-intensive efforts, they gained insights into the local education system.
The group also visited the coffee center, camped at Dolly Camp amidst wildlife, and contributed to the community by building goat sheds, stoves, and installing solar lights for local families.
Their experience concluded with a rewarding swim, marking the end of an inspiring journey.
The trip was a perfect blend of learning, service and adventure — leaving a lasting impact on both the students and the communities they served.
