DJI Adjusts No-Fly Zones in the U.S.: from Direct Prevention to Warning Alerts

Chinese drone manufacturer DJI has decided to upgrade its geofencing system in the U.S. to a more flexible warning system to align with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and draw on the European Union’s reform experiences in this area.

Previously, DJI’s drones in U.S. no-fly zones, such as areas around airports and sensitive military facilities, were directly prevented from taking off or entering using geofencing technology. However, with the new system update, drones approaching these restricted areas will now receive warning alerts instead of being directly prevented from flying. These alerts will inform pilots that they are entering or nearing restricted flight zones, sparking discussions about aircraft safety in the U.S.

DJI stated that this update aims to better comply with FAA regulations and ensure that pilots receive necessary safety information during flights. They emphasized that this change, similar to practices in the EU, reflects the evolving international drone management policies towards more flexible and user-friendly directions. By introducing a warning system, DJI hopes to enhance flight safety while giving pilots more autonomy.

With the continuous development of drone technology and the expanding application scenarios, the demand for drone management is constantly evolving. Therefore, the company needs to adjust and optimize its management systems to adapt to new environments and requirements. This update represents DJI’s proactive response in this evolving landscape.
