Bleecker Street
Bleecker Street has premiered a very brief logo-centric teaser for “Spinal Tap II,” the sequel to the iconic 1980s mockumentary film “This is Spinal Tap” which opens in cinemas this Summer.
Filmmaker Rob Reiner returns to direct the film which sees England’s sauciest heavy metal band – David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean), Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer), and Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest) all back.
Reiner himself will reprise his role of documentarian Martin ‘Marty’ Di Bergi. The original was released to critical acclaim in 1984 and is one of the few selected for preservation by the National Film Registry.
In the sequel, the band’s manager Ian Faith (Tony Hendra) has passed away and his widow inherits a contract that says Spinal Tap owed them one more concert and she will sue them if they don’t do it.
As a result the band, which hasn’t spent any time together recently, are thrown back together and are forced to deal with each other and play the concert.
Elton John, Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks among many others are set to cameo in the new film. The release will be joined by a 41st Anniversary re-release of a newly restored edition of the original film.
