The Federal Government has announced Friday, April 18, and Monday, April 21, 2025, as public holidays to mark this year’s Good Friday and Easter Monday celebrations.
The declaration was made in a statement signed by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, made available to Nigerian NewsDirect on Tuesday.
In the announcement, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, conveyed the government’s warm wishes to Christians across the country. He urged Nigerians to use the Easter season as an opportunity to reflect on the values of love, sacrifice, and compassion demonstrated by Jesus Christ.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo underscored the significance of selflessness, calling on citizens to embrace the spirit of unity and peace as the nation strives to meet the goals set out in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In his statement, the Minister said, “This period offers us a chance to embody the virtues of sacrifice and love shown by Jesus Christ, who died for the redemption of humanity. I also urge Nigerians to take this time to pray for the peace, unity, and stability of our nation.” He reassured citizens of President Tinubu’s strong dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to promote national growth and development.
The Minister also encouraged Nigerians to demonstrate goodwill and kindness over the holidays by extending acts of generosity to their neighbours.
He wished Christians a joyful Easter and sent warm greetings to all Nigerians as they celebrate the festive period.
