Files by Google has rolled out a new PDF viewer after previously relying on Google Drive.
Primarily, this new PDF viewer provides a more integrated experience with the rest of Files by Google. In the top bar, you have the ability to star a document, as well as share.
The overflow menu houses: Open with, Move to trash, Move to, Copy to, Moved to Safe folder, File info, Find in file, and Print. Some of those actions, like Safe folder and info, were previously only accessible outside of the viewer by long-pressing on the overflow menu in the list view.
Old vs. new
Previously, your actions were just: Find, Save to Drive, Send file, Download, Print, and Feedback to Google.
The Play Store changelog describes the change as such: “Over the next few weeks, we’re rolling out improvements to your experience with PDF files. Print, find content, or access markup tools whenever you open a PDF in the Files app.”
The editing FAB (floating action button) has a new icon, but the functionality is unchanged.
We’re seeing this rolled out with version 1.5687.x following a server-side update.
