Galaxy S25 Edge: Samsung’s new gamble?

At the end of the Galaxy S25 Unpacked event, Samsung pulled a ‘one more thing’ move teasing its upcoming smartphone, which is one we all have been highly anticipating, a super slim device that’s called the Galaxy S25 Edge, and this brings up a question, is Samsung gambling on a new hardware form to spice things up?

Image Credit: Future, via Tom’s Guide For years, Samsung’s smartphones have sticked to one signature design language, while iconic, it has gotten stale over time compared to the competition, at least its Galaxy Z foldables are still rather interesting at this time, but let’s face it, slab phones are just looking to similar across the board with just different identities on the back, it is a problem that every smartphone brands are facing, which is why I’m excited to see what Samsung is gambling on the Galaxy S25 Edge.

While the teaser didn’t reveal much about what the Galaxy S25 Edge is going to have, we can see that the components are densely packed in a super slim chassis, it also has a dual camera setup instead of three cameras with an iPhone 16 inspired island, but among all, what I’m most curious to know is if Samsung will finally transition the switch to a Silicon Carbon battery with the Galaxy S25 Edge, and if this phone is going to be as reliable as its other siblings, as we all know most slim devices tend not to sustain bends and drops.

So, why is this a gamble? It has been a while since smartphone brands tried innovating on slab phone form factors, while we have seen interesting back designs such as Nothing’s Glyph interface on its phones, Honor squeezing as many components as possible into a slim 4.4mm foldable form factor when unfolded, not many has attempted to create a successful ultra slim, compact and powerful flagship, and considering Samsung’s formula has worked so successfully, the Galaxy S25 Edge is going to be a testament of how far the company is willing to go on smartphone hardware innovation.

No release dates have been given on the Galaxy S25 Edge, but we expect more details to arrive in the coming weeks and possibly a Q2 announcement, I definitely can’t wait to see what Samsung has in store for us on the Galaxy S25 Edge, it’s a much-needed hype.
