Following the first teaser trailer for “Superman” dominating so much discussion this week, some questions about the film have been answered in interviews at a recent press event for the trailer launch.
One that came up that got a good response was to DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn who was asked about post-credits scene and whether DC plans to do them like Marvel with teases for future films, do something different where it’s not setup for something else, or not have them at all.
He explains (via ComicBookMovie) that they’re going with the middle option:
“If you look at my credits scenes on the Marvel movies, the one time I f—ed myself was when I put Adam Warlock in because then I’m like, ‘Oh s–t, now I gotta put Adam Warlock in the next movie; which actually was a pain in the ass.
So, I’m not gonna set up whole universes with end credits scenes. I love giving audiences who sit through all of the credits end credits scenes but I’d rather it be something that’s fun for fans and not necessarily, ‘Hey, we’re setting up the whole next part of the universe!’”
He also explains (via DC Film News) that of all the supporting hero characters in the film, Mister Terrific is the most important:
“I love Mister Terrific. These characters all get their moment in the sun. They all have their moments. They’re not just cameos, these are the characters. They’re supporting cast, but Mister Terrific is the main character of those characters. He actually has a big part of the plot.”
In answering some questions on Threads, Gunn says the film’s runtime isn’t locked yet but it will be under two-and-a-half hours.
He also shot down a report that emerged yesterday that he replaced a good chunk of the film’s visual effects team two weeks ago, saying:
“Not even a little bit [true]. My VFX teams are killing it. A couple months ago I made some changes with the post viz (temporary effects for editing purposes) team. There have been zero changes with the VFX teams.”
When one VFX artists thanked him for giving VFX artists the time to work and avoiding the known Marvel issue of multiple changes late in the process due to scene and script changes, Gunn says: “I just want quality and giving the artists that (along with clear direction) is the best way to ensure that.”
Finally, an illustration of the film’s Fortress of Solitude has gone online and shows a slightly different take on the icy home of the character.
“Take me home.”
