Steaming ahead?
Haegin are bringing their hit social gaming platform Play Together to Steam
You can now enjoy it both on mobile and desktop with cross-play between the two
Why’s this happening now? I’ve got a few guesses
While we were combing through the news today we noticed that our old friends over at Haegin have taken the interesting decision to bring their social gaming platform Play Together to Steam. Available now, complete with cross-play with the mobile version, what’s the reason for this? I’ve got a few guesses.
For those not familiar, Play Together sees you create your own avatar to explore the world of Kaia Island. You can interact with others, play minigames and even decorate your own player home. It’s been on mobile for quite a while now, but the PC release could be an attempt to branch out a bit further.
If I had to hazard a guess I’d say the move here is to try and bring in more players. Play Together is, of course, very similar to many of the social gaming entries over on Roblox. However, Play Together has thus far only captured a mobile audience, whereas desktop remained previously untapped.
Stay together
With over 200 million downloads, although Play Together usually appears for us in the form of its glut of in-game events and additions, it’s definitely fair to say it’s quite popular otherwise. With account-linking rewards and events to celebrate, Haegin looks eager to acquire a wider audience on Steam, although I’d posit that it won’t nearly reach the heights it has on mobile.
But that’s not necessarily the point either, because as we always say one of the big reasons mobile ports to desktop really need crossplay is to capture those of us who play on both. So will being on desktop keep people playing longer? We’ll have to wait and see.
Still, there’s plenty more out there to take a look at. When you have a chance to break from Play Together why not get the early scoop on upcoming launches with our regular feature Ahead of the Game?
