On February 5th, Hesai Technology announced a strategic partnership with Embotech AG, an autonomous driving solutions provider from Switzerland, and Outsight, a space intelligence software developer based in France.
According to the introduction, this collaboration aims to jointly provide laser radar technology and perception software for Embotech’s Autonomous Vehicle Management (AVM) system. Currently, this technology has been applied in BMW’s smart factory in Germany known as “Intra-factory Autonomous Driving”.
According to the introduction, the laser radar software platform used by AVM can track vehicles and obstacles around them in real time. The laser radar is provided by Hesai Technology, with high precision and reliability.
BMW initially applied this AVM technology to BMW 5 Series and BMW 7 Series models at its Dingolfing plant in Germany, and has now expanded it to the BMW MINI Countryman and more BMW models at its Leipzig plant in Germany.
At the Dingolfing factory, newly produced vehicles can be automatically dispatched from the production workshop to the final assembly area without human intervention. The entire process involves automatic driving within the factory premises for over one kilometer. Once the vehicle leaves the assembly workshop, the factory will automatically establish a secure connection with it and control its automatic driving with assistance from three-dimensional perception of laser radar. This eliminates the tedious steps for workers to return to the production workshop after each new vehicle reaches its destination.
