Hollow Knight: Silksong 21:9 ultrawide monitor support could make PCs the preferred platform

Team Cherry revealed that the game will support ultrawide monitors. With a maximum 21:9 aspect ratio, players may detect dangers lurking ahead without risking disaster.

Many flight or racing sim fans purchase ultrawide monitors to add immersion to gameplay. Still, the displays also provide players in Metroidvania games with a more complete view of environments. Team Cherry’s Matthew Griffin has confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will support aspect ratios of up to 21:9.

The marketer and publisher posted four stretchy screenshots on social media. All the scenes are predictably gloomy, but they show how the lighting enhances the hand-drawn 2D artwork. The health mask bar remains closer to the center of screens, but more areas are visible without exploration. That could help with navigation, which some players found frustrating in Hollow Knight.

Only a small percentage of PC gamers own an ultrawide monitor. Even so, they will no longer have to resort to editing files to remove black bars, as was the case with Hollow Knight. What’s accommodating to a larger audience are the Silksong system requirements. Posted on its Steam page, buyers only need an Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti or AMD Radeon HD 7750 to meet the minimum specs.

Unfortunately, consoles don’t allow gamers to take advantage of 21:9 displays. Still, Silksong introduces some nice perks to the Switch 2 handheld. With a 120 Hz refresh rate available, the side-scrolling action should be more fluid. Also, thanks to lower input lag, it may be easier to time attacks during combat sequences.

Regardless of what monitor or system a player has, Team Cherry’s title is priced for mass appeal. Many buyers initially thought the price leak at GameStop was too good to be true. However, the developer soon confirmed that the Metroidvania game would only cost $19.99. Analysts are expecting enormous Steam player counts on the September 4th Hollow Knight: Silksong release date.
