Home-Based Super Eagles To Face Zanzibar In Back-To-Back Friendlies

The home-based Super Eagles are currently in Zanzibar for the second leg of their preparations ahead of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The home-based Super Eagles are scheduled to play Zanzibar in a double-header friendly as part of their build-up to the continental competition.

Led by head coach Éric Chelle, the Nigerian side arrived on Friday and will immediately shift focus to their first test, a friendly match against Zanzibar scheduled for Monday, July 28. The second clash will follow closely on Thursday, July 31.

After the two warm-up games, the squad is expected to settle into their official camp accommodation on the island, as they fine-tune strategies ahead of their CHAN opener.

Nigeria has been drawn into Group D, where they will face defending champions Senegal, Sudan, and Congo. The home-based Super Eagles will kick off their campaign with a crunch tie against Senegal at the Amman Stadium on Wednesday, August 7.

The back-to-back games against Zanzibar will offer Chelle and his technical crew a valuable opportunity to assess team cohesion, try out tactical variations, and build momentum ahead of their group-stage challenge.

With the CHAN tournament exclusively for players playing their trade in their domestic leagues, the stakes remain high for the Super Eagles’ home-based stars hoping to make a name for themselves in continental football.
