Hulu Orders “Prison Break” Reboot To Pilot

Hulu
Hulu has handed out a pilot order for the proposed reboot of FOX’s “Prison Break” franchise.

First revealed as being in early development a year ago, the new installment is set within the world of the old show, but not expected to involve the characters who were at its center – namely brothers Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) and Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell).

That series followed Lincoln Burrows, who has been sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit, and his brother Michael Scofield, who hatches a plan to help Lincoln escape from prison.

The original series debuted to much fanfare in 2005. It was a ratings juggernaut and scored acclaim. It ultimately ran for four seasons and a direct-to-video movie. Later it was revived for a fifth season in 2017. Amaury Nolasco, Sarah Wayne Callies, Paul Adelstein, Rockmond Dunbar, and Robert Knepper also starred.

“Mayans M.C.” co-creator, executive producer and showrunner Elgin James will write and executive produce the new series through his Sierra Drive production label and for 20th Television.

Original series creator Paul Scheuring and executive producers Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein and Neal Moritz are also all returning.
