LAGOS (SUNDIATA POST)- The Igbobi College Old Boys’ Association (ICOBA), Lagos ,has described the death of Dr Doyin Okupe, an old student of the school,as a great loss.
The President of ICOBA, Mr Femi Olubanwo, reacted to Okupe’s death in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)on Friday in Lagos.
Okupe ,a medical practitioner and astute politician,died on Friday in Lagos,aged 72.
The ICOBA President told NAN that the college’s old boys were saddened by Okupe’s demise.
Olubanwo said: “I just read the news now. It is a great loss.We don’t know what happened but he was a very well- loved member of Igbobi College community.
“We are sad that we lost him. We pray for the eternal repose of his soul. We will soon be in touch with the family to commiserate with them.”
Describing late Okupe as a very prominent figure in Nigeria’s political space, Olubanwo said that Okupe would be sorely missed.
“We in Igbobi know him as very articulate and outspoken. He was very supportive and quite active. We will all miss him a great deal,” Olubanwo added.
Okupe served a Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to President Olusegun Obasanjo and later served as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan.
He later served as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 Presidential Campaign, before stepping down.
Okupe became a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, after the winner of the 2023 presidential election was announced, frequently engaging in political debates and commentaries.
Okupe was also the defunct National Publicity Secretary of the National Republican Convention (NRC) (NAN)
