Intel announces new Core Ultra 200H/HX series and more at CES 2025

Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer Intel is in the hot seat after laying off more than 15,000 employees and cutting billions in cost last year; however, the company is looking to change its luck with the release of the Intel Core Ultra 200 series, Intel Core 200 and the Intel Core 3 processor at CES 2025.

I’ve split this article into two parts: one that gives you all of the technical details and another that dumbs it down. Personally, the technical details didn’t make any sense to me, so I thought it would make sense to make this easier for my readers. However, if you want more technical details, please continue below.

Easy to understand
It’s important to know that Intel laptops will offer better performance, which is excellent news for creators. During the CES press conference, Intel focused on three SKUs: the Intel Core Ultra V (the most AI-efficient), the Intel Core Ultra H (more GPU, (creator and gaming-focused) and the Intel Core Ultra HX (CPU-focused).

The Intel Core Ultra 200V series offers top-of-the-line AI-driven experiences like running 2025 Copilot+ features.

For instance, we saw a demo experience of the Intel Core Ultra 9 288V playing F1 2024 and running against the AMD Ryzen AI 9HX 375. We saw how the Core Ultra 9 288V could support a consistently higher framerate and use less CPU package power. Funny enough, the Snapdragon X Elite reportedly couldn’t run that title. While the V isn’t a gaming focus, it can use AI upscaling and rendering. So, you shouldn’t have an issue if you want to play a game or two.

However, if you’re a gamer, you want to use the Intel Core H, the show’s star. Intel demoed the Core Ultra 285H versus last year’s 185H. We can see that the Core Ultra 285H running at the same CPU package power offers a much higher frame rate than the 185H. Pushing the Ultra Core 9 285H to a much lower package power offers a slightly better frame rate than the 185H. This means your device will use far less power and still perform great.

Lastly, the Core Ultra HX is the flagship SoC of the bunch. We didn’t see very much from the demos for the Core Ultra HX; however, Intel showed that the SoC has the highest benchmarks.

The Core Ultra Series 2 platforms also offer greater networking speeds, with support for Intel Wi-Fi 7 and Thunderbolt 5 and Thunderbolt 4 technology. They also support high-fidelity, low-power Intel Bluetooth LE Audio and the ability to share screens, keyboards, mice, storage, and files with two PCs using Thunderbolt Share.

For the nerds
The Intel Core Ultra 200H, formerly known by the codename Arrow Lake, has an Intel Arc GPU with Intel Graphics. It also has an Intel AI Boost NPU and offers up to 99 total platform TOPS. This allows the SoC to perform a trillion operations per second using the CPU, NPU and GPU.

The Intel Core Ultra 9 processor 285H, compared to the 185H, offers up to 2.2x higher performance in Procyon AI Computer Vision, 3.3x higher performance in Llama 38B, and up to 2.3x higher performance in Stable Diffusion 1.5.

Intel even says the Core Ultra 7 265H processor at 97 TOPS is 5.8x faster in media performance than the Nvidia Jetson AGX Orin 64GB at 275 TOPS. It also offers 3.4x faster video analytics end-to-end workload Media and AI inference performance and 8.2x better per watt per dollar.

The Intel Core Ultra 200H offers up to 24 cores, eight performance cores, and 16 efficient cores. The HX offers 16 cores, six performance cores, eight efficient cores, and two lower-power cores. Additionally, the HX features a built-in NPU providing 13 TOPs. The HX can also overclock its performance and efficiently cores to perform even better.

The Intel 200V series with the vPro platform will be available at online and in-store retailers as well as OEM partners starting January 6th. The Intel Core 200H will be available in February, and the Intel Core Ultra HX series will be available in the first half of 2025.
