Intel Responds to Accusations of “Cybersecurity Threat” Warned by Chinese Authorities

On October 16th, the official WeChat account of the China Cybersecurity Association published a blog post titled “Frequent Vulnerabilities and High Failure Rates: System Investigation of Intel Product Cybersecurity Risks,” indicating that there are many security risks in Intel products. These include CPU side-channel vulnerabilities, instability issues with the 13th and 14th generation high-end Core desktop processors, IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface), ME (Management Engine), and so on. They recommended initiating cybersecurity checks on Intel products sold in China.

On the 17th, Intel issued a statement in response:

“As a multinational company that has been operating in China for nearly 40 years, Intel strictly complies with the laws and regulations applicable in the places where it does business. Intel always puts product safety and quality first, and has been actively working closely with customers and the industry to ensure the safety and quality of our products. We will maintain communication with relevant departments to clarify any doubts and demonstrate our firm commitment to product safety and quality.”

Also today, Intel issued a statement to clarify that the incident of “illegal mapping by foreign companies” alleged by the Chinese National Security Department is unrelated to its subsidiary, Mobileye.
