Is the “Parasakthi” Title Controversy Finally Resolved?

The recent dispute over the title “Parasakthi” in Tamil cinema has garnered significant attention. The controversy arose when both Sivakarthikeyan and Vijay Antony announced their respective 25th films, each associated with the title “Parasakthi.”

Sivakarthikeyan’s film, directed by Sudha Kongara and produced by Dawn Pictures, was officially titled “Parasakthi” on January 29, 2025. A teaser was released, generating excitement among fans. However, earlier that day, Vijay Antony revealed his 25th film titled “Shakti Thirumagan” in Tamil and “Paraashakthi” in Telugu. This overlap led to confusion and discussions among audiences.

Vijay Antony issued a statement clarifying that his production company, Vijay Antony Pictures, had registered the title “Paraashakthi” with the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce on July 22, 2024. He provided official documentation to support this claim.

In response, Dawn Pictures shared letters from the Tamil and Telugu Producers Council, confirming their approval to use the title “Parasakthi” in both languages. They emphasized that they had lawfully obtained the rights to the title.

Adding to the discussion, AVM Studios, the original producers of the iconic 1952 film “Parasakthi” starring Sivaji Ganesan, clarified that they had officially granted the title rights to Sivakarthikeyan’s film. They expressed hope that the new film would honor the legacy of the original and inspire younger generations.

“Recently, the producer of Dawn Pictures, who is backing Sivakarthikeyan’s ‘Parasakthi,’ shared a photo of himself with Vijay Antony on social media, accompanied by a heart symbol. Vijay Antony also reposted the same image on his social media, signaling that the long-standing title dispute has been amicably resolved. Fans can now eagerly await an official announcement from both teams.”
