Ismail linked with Albanian club, doubtful for CHAN

Super Eagles B and Remo Stars wingback Sodiq Ismail is likely going to miss out on the 2024 African Nations Championship if he completes his speculated transfer to Albanian club FK Partizani, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The CHAN tournament is strictly for players plying their trade in their country’s domestic league and Ismail will no longer be eligible by the time he completes his switch from Remo Stars.

The 2024 tournament will be played in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from February 1 to 28.

Ismail was one of the goalscorers as Nigeria thumped Ghana 3-1 on aggregate to book their spot in the final.

Ismail’s move was first hinted at by journalist Ademola Victor after the team’s victory over Ghana last weekend but the player denied it.

However, a close source at Remo Stars and NPFL transfer mill, Mike The Pundit, has given more updates about the potential transfer.

“Sodiq Ismail to Albanian side, FK Partizani. Medicals are scheduled for this week upon the right back’s arrival. The Super Eagles defender will put pen to paper on a year deal,” Mike posted via X.

Since breaking into the spotlight of the Nigeria Premier Football League in 2023, the 21-year-old has been dubbed the assist king, due to his high rate of goal contribution for his teammates.

In the 2023/24 season, he provided 13 assists and one goal as his team finished second in the NPFL.

This term, he has added goals scoring to his game having netted three times already this season.
