He’s been campaigning for it almost as long as he’s been Aquaman, and now, Jason Momoa is getting a belated holiday gift: the actor will trade DC’s seas for its stars as he takes on the mantle of intergalactic bounty hunter, Lobo.
Deadline reports that Momoa will first appear as Lobo in the upcoming cosmic Supergirl film, Woman of Tomorrow, starring House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El. Although Momoa himself didn’t specify just when and where he’d be appearing, he confirmed the news in an Instagram post of a screenshot from a prior quote where he said “If [DC Studios] call and ask me to play him, it’s a fuck yeah,” now with the simple caption “they called.”
Momoa wouldn’t be the first actor to cross over from the former DC cinematic universe into James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DCU, but he’s arguably the most prominent thus far, making a change up from a former Justice League member to whatever capacity we’ll see him as Lobo. Gunn has previously teased that Lobo was going to be a character we’d eventually see in this new universe—whether it’s simply in supporting roles like Woman of Tomorrow or beyond into either a standalone film or TV series, remains to be seen, but it’s nice to see at least one former DC star get what they wanted under the new regime.
We’ll bring you more on James Gunn’s plans for the DCU as and when we learn them.
