Kraft Heinz packaging challenge winner revealed

Kraft Heinz packaging competition winner announced at Rethinking Materials event.

The winner of a major, global packaging innovation competition headed by Kraft Heinz has been announcedA customised barrier solution that enables manufacturers to cater to various environments and product needs has won the Rethinking Materials, in partnership with Kraft Heinz, global packaging innovation challenge.

Kalpana Systems beat off two other top-performing finalists – Pack2Earth and Aptar – following a live on stage pitch to a panel of senior Kraft Heinz executives who explored the viability of each innovation during a gruelling Q&A session. Following which, the winner was announced.

The competition invited global innovators and material scientists to present cutting-edge solutions that deliver enhanced barrier performance for food protection and extended shelf life.

Kraft Heinz packaging competitionOver 80 companies from 25 countries entered the competition. A selection process narrowed it down to three finalists.

“At Kraft Heinz we believe that collaboration is key to driving meaningful impact and we’re excited to provide feedback and insight to Kalpana to unlock new innovations to evolve our packaging journey,” said Linda Roman, director of packaging at Kraft Heinz and North America R&D fellow.

Kalpana Systems crowned the winner of a global packaging solutions competition. (Rethinking Materials)As part of the prize, Kalpana will be invited to Kraft Heinz’s R&D facilities and will be given “strategic” feedback and mentorship from its global innovation team.

Support from Kraft Heinz will include guidance on technical scale-up, regulatory compliance and commercialisation pathways.

Packaging solutionsThe competition encouraged packaging solutions made from recyclable, compostable, long-lasting and/or user-friendly materials. It was held in London at the Rethinking Materials event between May 13 to 14.

Kalpana Systems may also still get the chance to collaborate with Kraft Heinz and work on solutions that could help advance the business’s packaging portfolio.

The film material composts at ambient temperature in less than 12 months under home composting conditions, leaving no microplastics or toxinsAptar & ProAmpac (USA) develops multilayer flexible films with built-in scavenging technology in a high-performance sealant layer. Its Moisture Protect series extends shelf life by removing moisture and is available in foil, non-foil, and recycle-ready formats.
