The upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” appears to be bringing back some familiar faces from past films including Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, albeit in different forms as Dr. Doom and likely Nomad respectively.
As a result the heroes that we’ll see isn’t clear beyond a few obvious confirmed names. Next year’s “Captain America: Brave New World” seems to be the beginning of a new setup.
An extended version of the ‘Special Look’ trailer the other day has come out with more action above Tiamut Island. It also sees Harrison Ford’s President Ross asking Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson to help him rebuild the Avengers.
Speaking about the new ‘Cap’ film with Empire, producer Nate Moore says Wilson will likely be the lead of the new Avengers team with this movie testing his worth:
“There is certainly more story to be told for Captain America. Sam might find that, moving forward, he might be jumping out of the frying pan and into the proverbial fire.
I think that Avengers teams are best when they are led by a Captain America. And this movie gives us a little bit of space to talk about, ‘Where are the Avengers? What does it mean to have Avengers? And is Sam the right guy to lead them?’”
Whatever happens, Mackie says he’s keen to be a part of the new “Avengers” films – especially with Downey Jr. onboard:
“I’m really looking forward to getting back on set with the Russos. They understand this Marvel world in a very unique way. And just having him [Downey Jr] back adds so much. To see what he brings to the table is just a huge opportunity.”
‘Brave New World’ has been undergoing major reshoots with some taking place the other week to beef up the movie ahead of its February release.
Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, Xosha Roquemore, Carl Lumbly, with Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson co-star in the Julius Onah-directed film which opens in cinemas on February 14th.
