A Major Achievement for Mario Kart World
Gamescom has once again handed out its annual awards, and this year, Nintendo made a strong return after being absent in 2024. Donkey Kong Bananza, a recent Nintendo Switch 2 release, claimed the award for “Best Gameplay.” It outperformed major contenders like Resident Evil Requiem and Mario Kart World. Although Mario Kart World missed that category, it secured “Best Nintendo Switch 2 Game,” beating Donkey Kong Bananza and the upcoming Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Other winners also stood out across the event. Pokémon drew attention with its colorful display and won “Best Booth.” Capcom showcased an impressive selection of titles and earned “Best Lineup.” Hollow Knight: Silksong captured fans with its striking reveal and won “Best Trailer.”
Gamescom sets clear rules for participation. Developers must bring their titles to the event and submit them for award consideration, with fees attached to each entry. The official Gamescom website lists the full set of winners along with the judging criteria.
Nintendo’s Switch 2 exclusives have now collected their first awards, signaling a promising start for the console’s new era. Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World already hold key honors, and anticipation continues to build for future releases. Kirby Air Riders, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4 remain on the horizon, and many players expect them to define the Switch 2’s growing library.
