Marvel Comics Reveals Star Wars: Jedi Knights Series Set Before The Phantom Menace | NYCC 2024

Marvel Comics has revealed its latest ongoing Star Wars series. Dubbed Star Wars: Jedi Knights, the series will explore the heroes of the Jedi Order in the period before The Phantom Menace.

The news came during Lucasfilm Publishing’s “Star Wars: Stories From a Galaxy Far, Far Away” panel at NYCC. The series features two veterans of Marvel’s Star Wars line, writer Marc Guggenheim (Star Wars: Han Solo & Chewbacca) and artist Madibek Musabekov (Star Wars).

Star Wars: Jedi Knights #1 Cover Art GalleryJedi Knights features a wide ensemble cast, including both iconic Prequel-era Jedi like Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Mace Windu, and Shaak Ti, along with brand new characters. Even Count Dooku has a role to play, as the series is set before he defected from the Jedi Order and became Darth Tyrannus.

Each issue will focus on a different pair of Jedi characters, though the series will be linked together by an overarching conflict. Marvel teased that the series will explore a mystery involving Qui-Gon being marked for death.

“Marc and Madibek deliver a blockbuster first issue with a cliffhanger that kicks off one action-packed issue after another featuring your favorite Jedi,” Editor Mark Paniccia said in a statement. “You’ve literally never seen so much lightsaber action in a comic book!”

Star Wars: Jedi Knights #1 will be released in March 2025.

This news comes as we wait to learn more about Marvel’s larger plans for the Star Wars line in 2025. The publisher recently wrapped up their ongoing Star Wars and Darth Vader comics, which were set during the period in between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Currently, Marvel is publishing Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku, a trilogy of limited series that chronicle the final battle in the war between the Rebellion and the Empire. Many fans have speculated that Marvel will follow up The Battle of Jakku with a new line of comics set in the New Republic era. But for now, Marvel has yet to reveal what’s coming in the new year.

Previously at NYCC, Marvel revealed The Rise of Emperor Doom, a new Marvel Universe crossover kicking off in February 2025. Be sure to check out our roundup of everything announced at NYCC so far.
