Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey will star in the Paul Greengrass-directed film “The Rage” which FilmNation is selling at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.

Oscar nominee Greengrass is also scripting the project, which FilmNation is selling at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.

The story unfolds during the Peasants’ Revolt in England in 1381. The revolt was believed to be a result of a combination of both economic and political tensions generated by the Black Death a generation before, along with taxes resulting from the Hundred Years’ War.

The moment was once seen as a defining moment in English history. McConaughey will play a farmer who becomes the leader of the revolt, leading to speculation he’ll play Wat Tyler – that’s. not confirmed at this time.

Jason Blum is producing through Blumhouse Productions, with Greengrass and Joanna Kaye als producing. Benedict Cumberbatch was attached to a previous incarnation of the project.

McConaughey and Greengrass recently worked on “The Lost Bus” at Apple Studios, and the actor’s “The Rivals of Amziah King” will launch at this year’s SXSW.
