Monster Hunter Wilds rival Dauntless gets huge 2.0 ‘Awakening’ update next week

Monster Hunter Wilds is one of the most anticipated games of next year, but a surprise challenger has emerged – or should that be re-emerged?

Dauntless launched back in 2019, and Phoenix Labs has built on it since then, but next week’s update, Dauntless: Awakening will massively shake up the free-to-play PvE adventure.

Here’s everything coming in the huge ‘2.0’ update, including new Behemoths, weapons, and much more.

Prepare to tackle a new Behemoth

Dauntless Awakening gives free-to-play game a huge 2.0 update Dauntless Awakening will kick off a new seasonal model, and introduces the new Karkonos Behemoth for players to tackle.

“This epic encounter takes place in the haunting Twilight’s Domain hunting ground, where players can earn parts to craft the coveted Brineguard Armour Set,” a press release explains.

The update will also add 18 new weapons, including silver sword and golden claws. Some are unlocked through quests, and another 11 can be earned through Weapon Tokens from weekly challenges.

Fear not, we’re not leaving Twitter/X, but we are jumping on the bandwagon. So come find our new account on https://bsky.app/profile/dailystar.co.uk, and see us social better than the rest.

You can also learn more about The Daily Star team in what Bluesky calls a “Starter Pack”.

Developer Phoenix Labs is promising unlockable Talents, streamlined mechanics, reworked Behemoths (there are over 30 now). Players can earn XP on two weapons at a time with the addition of subweapons.

The game will also finally come to Steam, and the team is working on achieving Steam Deck support. Considering there’s cross-progression, I can see myself downloading it to slay Behemoths across the holiday season.
