Mumbai’s new signal-free connector to BKC set to cut travel time by 15 minutes

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is set to launch a new signal-free connector between the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) in just two days. This new route aims to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce travel time for daily commuters, potentially saving up to 15 minutes for those using the route. The 180-meter-long connector is part of an 850-meter stretch that will link the SEBI Building to Avenue-5, beneath the BKC Connector Road, and extend to Avenue-3 near We-Work.

While the distance remains the same as before, the absence of traffic signals along the route will allow for faster and smoother travel. The new connector is expected to provide significant relief during peak hours when traffic congestion around BKC is at its worst.

This development comes after the elevated connector between BKC’s ‘G Block’ and EEH, which opened on November 10, 2019, was found to be inadequate due to heavy usage during rush hours, leading to delays on BKC’s internal roads. As a result, MMRDA decided to create a more efficient route to handle the growing traffic demand.

This new route is a key part of MMRDA’s broader plan to ease congestion by distributing traffic across multiple routes.
