My Love For Music Grew From ‘Pain’ – Fameye Talks About His Childhood Struggles

News

Musician Fameye has shared that the sad themes in his songs are inspired by his tough childhood. Losing both parents at a very young age, Fameye was raised by his grandmother before moving to Accra at the age of eight to live with his aunt.

While staying with his aunt, Fameye was burdened with responsibilities he felt were too heavy for someone his age, yet he carried them out without complaining. “I was fetching water, washing, scrubbing, and doing all those things. At a young age, I found myself singing while doing these tasks because, at that time, I felt it was maltreatment. My aunt had four kids, but I, Peter (referring to himself), did most of the chores. I would be singing and crying, and that’s how my love for music developed,” he revealed.

He explained that much of the pain he experienced as a child is what he draws upon in his music. “People say I sing sad songs, but the reality is that I reflect on my life growing up and the things I had to endure. That’s what I sing about. Ama Boahemaa’s songs were the ones I sang to encourage myself,” he said.

Fameye also acknowledged King Ayisoba’s influence on his music, mentioning that the song “The Whole World” was one of the tracks that inspired him.
