Ndidi’s Leicester edge towards demotion following humbling Newcastle loss

Ndidi’s Leicester edge towards demotion following humbling Newcastle loss

2024 EFL Championship winners, Leicester City, are drawing closer to a return to the English second division following a 3-0 loss to Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Foxes are yet to win a game since their 2-1 victory over Ange Postecoglu’s Tottenham Hotspur in January, and their winless streak continued tonight. They’ve now lost ten consecutive games.

Two minutes into the game, Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s side were undone by some brilliant work down the left-hand side as Tino Livramento squared the ball across the six-yard box for Jacob Murphy to score the opener.

Nine minutes later, Murphy doubled the lead. Newcastle defender, Fabian Schar, won the ball close to the halfway line and attempted an audacious chip to catch the Leicester City goalkeeper out.

His attempt hit the woodwork, and Murphy tapped into an empty net from the rebound to score his eighth goal of the season.

Newcastle are now gaining ground in their pursuit of UEFA Champions League football. The Magpies are now level on points (53) with fourth-placed Chelsea, four points behind Nottingham Forest.

For Ndidi and Leicester, their hopes of staying in the English top-flight depletes after every matchday. They’re 19th, with barely anything to fight for.
