The Odisha government is set to launch a new queue management system at the renowned Jagannath Temple in Puri, aiming to enhance the spiritual experience for devotees. Called the Dhadi Darshan system, this initiative will be implemented from January 1, 2025, after undergoing trial runs at the end of December 2024.
The system seeks to address the large crowds visiting the temple daily by organizing the flow of devotees, ensuring a more efficient and serene darshan (viewing) process. The Dhadi Darshan system will feature distinct entry and exit points to minimize congestion. Devotees will enter the temple through the Satapahacha gate and exit via two separate gates, Ghanti and Garada.
This layout will ease crowding and create a more orderly visit, allowing for a smoother flow of people. Furthermore, the temple administration has taken special measures to ensure that women, children, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals can visit the temple with greater comfort and ease.

Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan shared details of the system in a media briefing, highlighting the government’s efforts to provide a more inclusive and accessible environment. He assured the public that preparations are progressing on schedule and are expected to be completed by December 27 or 28, 2024. A trial run of the system will take place on December 30 and 31, ensuring everything is in place before the system’s official launch in January.
This new initiative is a significant step toward modernizing the facilities at the temple while maintaining its sacredness. Harichandan, along with Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Chief Administrator Arabinda Padhee, visited the temple recently to oversee preparations and ensure the changes are implemented effectively. The system is designed to improve the overall experience by reducing waiting times and enhancing the overall flow of devotees, thus preserving the sanctity of the temple during peak visitation periods.
The introduction of the Dhadi Darshan system marks a major advancement in how the temple manages its crowds. This well-planned initiative aims to streamline the temple visit process, making it more comfortable and respectful for everyone. Starting January 1, 2025, the system promises to offer a smoother, more spiritually fulfilling journey for the millions of devotees who visit one of India’s most revered temples each year.
