…As ECOWAS Parliament 25th Anniversary Celebration Concludes Novelty Match
The newly elected President of the ECOWAS Female Parliamentarians Association (ECOFEPA) Madam Fanny Moussokora Chantel has urged women parliamentarians to unite and support the newly elected Exco to take the group, especially on women representation and the association to the next level.
This as a football match concluded the activities commemorating the 25th anniversary of ECOWAS Parliament, in Abuja on Saturday.
Chantel made the call at the weekend in her acceptance speech after her election, during which she expressed gratitude to her fellow parliamentarians for the opportunity, assuring of her resolve to work tirelessly in her new role to attain the purpose of the association in the next two years of the 6th ECOWAS Parliament Legislature.
“We will give a clear signal that West African parliamentarians are not push overs; we are one of the important forces, and as long as we remain united, nothing can stop us. These two years, we are going to make a lot of solid impact and strengthen the female leadership in the sub-region by ensuring there are training opportunities for our young ladies and women”, she stressed.
According to her, in tenure, the group will not be a push over, and disorganized, rather a formidable force to reckon with in Parliamentarian and regional affairs.
“We will be the actors in our region and not sectors in the sub-region, we are taking ECOFEPA to the highest level”, she assured.
On the novelty match, each team comprised parliamentarians, administrative staff, interpreters, interns, and others, participating in a gala match within a festive atmosphere. The kick-off was officiated by the Speaker of the Parliament, Hon. Hadja Mémounatou Ibrahima.
It was more than just a match, as the event symbolized the spirit of cohesion that the parliamentary institution promoted for a quarter of a century.
