Background
On April 17, 2025, reports emerged online that a Level 100 student at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Nicholas Kumi Obeng,, popularly known as Khon Void, reportedly committed suicide after he caught his girlfriend in the act of cheating.
According to a student publication, Khon Void was found hanging on the school premises, a day after he fainted when he found his girlfriend in bed with another man.
Obeng, an Art Education student affiliated with GUSSS Hall One, reportedly visited his girlfriend in GUSSS Hall Two but met a heart-rending scene of her in bed with another gentleman.
He reportedly fainted and was revived by people around, who sent him back to his hostel.
A day later, he was found dead, having ostensibly taken his own life.
Following the tragedy, new reports emerged from students on campus who alleged another motive for Obeng’s death.
They claimed that Obeng was extorting his girlfriend with some indecent photos of her he had in his possession, leading her to ‘organise’ a group of guys to attack Obeng.
He reportedly died following the attack, and the alleged perpetrators staged a suicide scene.
“They claim he committed suicide, but that’s not what happened. The girlfriend organised a ‘squad’ [to attack him]. He threatened her with her n*ked video so she hired some guys to attack him,” a student claiming to be ‘in the know’ said in a viral recording. “They killed him and hung him in the bathhouse [to seem like a suicide]”
