Nicholas Ukachukwu in a decisive victory at the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries emerged the party’s candidate for November 8th, 2025 Anambra State Governorship election.
The primaries stretched far into the night of Saturday in Awka, the State capital before the conclusion.
The results, announced by Governor Bassy Otu of Cross River State, who is the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, showed an overwhelming endorsement of Ukachukwu by party delegates across the State.
BusinessDay reports that Nicholas Ukachukwu polled 1,455 votes to beat Valentine Ozigbo, who scored 67 votes; Johnbosco Onunkwo, that polled 26 votes and Edozie Madu with 8 votes, while the total number of invalid votes stood at 26.
In his acceptance speech, Ukachukwu extended his heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for ensuring a hitch-free and transparent intraparty election process. He also commended the APC National Working Committee, Governor Bassey Otu and his team, his co-contenders, and all delegates for their roles in the successful conduct of the primary election.

Ukachukwu called on his fellow aspirants to unite and rally around his candidacy, emphasising that “the most important thing now is to deliver Anambra to the APC.”
Reflecting on his longstanding influence in Anambra State politics, Ukachukwu remarked, “I have been instrumental to the emergence of successive governors in Anambra over the years. I have played the role of a godfather, but now, I am ready to father myself.”
He assured party members and the people of Anambra of his unwavering commitment to their trust, pledging not to disappoint them as he prepares to challenge the incumbent administration led by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
With this landslide victory, Ukachukwu set the stage for a heated 2025 Gubernatorial contest in Anambra State.
Meanwhile, Governor Chukwuma Soludo also clinched the ticket for the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), just as George Muoghalu emerged the standard bearer for the Labour Party (LP).
