NIO plans to release version 3.1.0 of the Banyan intelligent system in January 2025, which will achieve the first push of an end-to-end large model architecture for intelligent driving, NIO‘s end-to-end intelligent driving “better late than never”.
For comparison, the Banyan 3.0.0 version of the intelligent system released by NIO in August focuses on upgrading the intelligent cockpit and intelligent chassis, incorporating AI technology.
At present, all 8 models currently on sale by NIO (including ET5/5T/7, ES6/7/8, EC6/7) are developed based on the NT2.0 platform. This month, a new car including the ET9 will be launched on the NT3.0 platform.
According to a source close to NIO, Banyan 3.1.0 recently underwent a round of “major review” within the company. Prior to this, NIO‘s model team had experienced multiple delays. In addition to traditional parking-to-parking functions, NIO also plans to introduce a new version of urban navigation and battery swapping technology based on the same set of technologies for autonomous battery swapping within city areas.
An industry insider in autonomous driving told us that solutions released by car companies actually consist of two or more smaller models end-to-end. For example, Huawei and Xiaopeng’s solutions each have separate small models for perception and control sections; strictly speaking, these are still segmented autonomous driving solutions.
Like other domestic car companies such as Xiaopeng and Huawei, NIO‘s upcoming end-to-end large-scale architecture set to be released early next year is not strictly considered as one single large-scale model in essence. Industry leaders in autonomous driving state that the global model released by NIO in July this year can be understood as a rule-based model with significant parameters.
