No Miles Morales In The MCU Anytime Soon

After talking generalities regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a lengthy sitdown with the press today, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige then drilled down into specifics.

The biggest reveal arguably tied to Spider-Man, with the most telling comment being that we should not be expecting the character of Miles Morales to appear in the soon-to-be-filmed “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”. In fact, he says, don’t expect him anytime soon in the MCU.

Sony Pictures holds the rights to the Spider-Man characters, and thus has control over their usage in Marvel’s projects. Speaking with Variety, Feige responded bluntly when asked about the chances of Miles appearing saying: “That is nowhere… we’ve been told to stay away.”

Effectively, the studio isn’t allowing anything MCU-related to happen with Miles until after the animated “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” hits cinemas in mid-2027. The Spider-Verse films boast Miles as the lead character.

Feige did confirm that Jon Bernthal will play his The Punisher role in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”. Though Marvel’s film and TV efforts in the future will be far more siloed, Feige isn’t against crossover cameos – saying: “Where we have great actors playing great characters, I think it would be fun to see them multiple places.”

As for the new film’s tone, he confirms they’re going with something grounded: “He’s on his own, focused on protecting the city and facing street-level crime—not world-ending threats.”

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is gearing up to begin shooting in a matter of days in Scotland, with the film’s star Tom Holland currently in the country.
