Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang just gave a keynote address at the 2025 Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas.
During the event, Huang announced the new RTX 50 series GPU cards led by the flagship RTX 5090.
These GPUs are powered by the new NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and leverage AI to deliver unprecedented performance and visual quality.
During the presentation, Huang highlighted that the engineering team is leveraging AI to design and build these cards, and without it, this simply wouldn’t be possible.
AI is also used heavily when delivering the next-generation of performance from a GPU, so in 2025, it feels like a tough hill to climb for a competitor.
AI-Driven Rendering and Performance
The RTX 5090, boasting a staggering 92 billion transistors. The single card is capable of over 3,352 trillion AI operations per second, thanks to its fifth-generation Tensor Cores and fourth-generation RT Cores.
This AI power translates to significant advancements in neural rendering, digital human technologies, and geometry and lighting, opening up a new world of AI-enhanced graphics. The Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4 technology enable the RTX 5090 to outperform its predecessor, the RTX 4090, by up to 2x. DLSS 4, with its Multi Frame Generation, uses AI to generate additional frames, boosting frame rates by up to 8x compared to traditional rendering.
RTX Neural Shaders and Autonomous Characters
NVIDIA is also introducing RTX Neural Shaders, which use AI networks within programmable shaders to create film-quality materials and lighting in real-time. This technology, along with advancements in ray tracing and AI-powered facial rendering, promises a significant leap in realism for game characters and environments. Furthermore, the RTX 50 Series GPUs power NVIDIA ACE, a suite of technologies that enable autonomous game characters to behave more like human players. These AI-driven characters can perceive, plan, and act intelligently, adding a new dimension to gameplay.
“Microsoft is excited to partner with NVIDIA to catalyse this next generation of graphics programming by bringing industry-wide support for neural shading technology. DirectX will soon support Cooperative Vectors, which will unlock the power of Tensor Cores on NVIDIA GeForce RTX hardware and enable game developers to fully accelerate neural shaders on Windows.”
– Bryan Langley, partner group program manager of Silicon, Media, and Graphics at Microsoft.
Pricing and Availability
The GeForce 50 series cards will be released soon, as in, end of the month soon.. which was probably a lot earlier than many imagined.
The Nvidia Australia site lists local pricing and naturally the top-level of performance doesn’t come cheap.
GeForce RTX 5090, Starting at AUD 4,039
GeForce RTX 5080, Starting at AUD 2,019
GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, Starting at AUD 1,509
GeForce RTX 5070, Starting at AUD 1,109
On the up side, the RTX 5070 represents great value, delivering RTX 4090 performance for just over A$1,000.
Let us know in the comments if you’re definitely getting after the RTX 50 series cards.
