A newly released report by data analytics firm Statisense has revealed that Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party and former Anambra State Governor, donated over ₦576 million to healthcare, education, and humanitarian causes across Nigeria between January and July 2025.
The breakdown, published on Statisense’s verified X (formerly Twitter) page on July 29, shows that Obi’s contributions were most concentrated in the South East region, which received ₦415 million—over 70% of the total.
According to the report, Obi’s philanthropy extended across the six geopolitical zones, with ₦60 million each going to the North West and North Central, ₦35 million to the South South, and ₦6 million to the North East.

Kaduna emerged as a key location outside the South East, receiving a total of ₦60 million in combined donations directed at educational and religious institutions.
The donations, coming amid economic difficulties—rising inflation, high petrol prices, and widespread poverty—have drawn significant public praise. Many Nigerians on social media lauded Obi’s consistent grassroots interventions, especially in contrast to government excesses.
A popular online remark read: “This is leadership without holding office. Peter Obi is showing that meaningful impact doesn’t require a political title.” Another added, “While others are erecting lavish buildings, he’s investing in the future.”
With his interventions touching several parts of the country, analysts believe Obi is reinforcing his image as a leader with a people-oriented approach and a pan-Nigerian vision. Whether driven by principle, political strategy, or both, his donation track record is shaping public perception and could influence future leadership conversations.
