Playtech starts Responsible Gambling deal with University of Nevada

Playtech has announced a new responsible gambling partnership with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).

The multi-year collaboration involves Playtech working with UNLV’s International Gaming Institute (IGI) to leverage their combined expertise in gambling technology and player protection.

Jonathan Doubilet, VP of US Business Operations at Playtech said:

We’re excited to collaborate with the renowned UNLV IGI. Their knowledge in gambling and technology continues to generate valuable insights that benefit all stakeholders in advancing player protection.

The partnership will initially focus on using AI and machine learning to enhance responsible gambling practices. Playtech will fund an IGI project exploring how AI can train chatbots to promote responsible gambling behavior. Additionally, Playtech is supporting the Gaming Manufacturing Internship Program at IGI’s Center for Gaming Innovation.

Brett Abarbanel, Executive Director of UNLV’s IGI, added:

It’s a pleasure to collaborate with Playtech across our various educational, research, and innovation programs. Playtech is a global leader in gambling, and together, we’ll work towards building a stronger, more sustainable industry.

Since its inception in 1999, Playtech has prioritized safe gambling solutions, offering specialized technology through its Playtech Protect ecosystem. In 2017, Playtech acquired BetBuddy, an AI-driven solution that monitors behavior and uses risk modeling to detect problem gambling. In 2021, Playtech became the first company to achieve GamCare’s B2B Safer Gambling Standard for its casino products in Great Britain.

Playtech’s Italian division, Snaitech, also renewed its G4 international certification for responsible online gambling. Recently, Flutter Entertainment, the parent company of FanDuel, agreed to purchase Snaitech from Playtech for $2.56 billion. Playtech also announced the expansion of its joint iGaming venture with bet365 in Pennsylvania.

Kasra Ghaharian, director of research at UNLV’s IGI, commented:

We’re thrilled to work with Playtech in advancing our responsible gambling research. Their expertise in AI and machine learning is crucial to promoting safer gambling behaviors worldwide, aligning perfectly with our goals of understanding, predicting, and preventing gambling harm.
