Travel advisory: Chaos erupts on NH-44 due to farmers protest

A group of 101 farmers began their long-planned foot march to Delhi from the Shambhu border protest site on Friday but were stopped mere meters into their journey by heavy barricading along National Highway-44. As of now, the situation is chaotic near the Punjab-Haryana border. The march, organised under the banners of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), aims to press the Centre for a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for crops and other demands.

Anticipating disruptions, authorities in Haryana have ramped up security along the Ambala-Delhi border, deploying a heavy contingent of police and paramilitary forces. A multilayered barricading system is in place at the Shambhu border.

As per reports, Ambala’s district administration, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), has prohibited any unlawful assembly of five or more persons in the area. Additionally, all government and private schools in Ambala district have been ordered to remain closed on Friday to ensure public safety.

Reports have also stated that authorities are diverting vehicles to manage the escalating traffic situation. Today’s march follows a similar protest earlier this week, which caused widespread disruptions near the Delhi-Noida border.
