Rappers Shatter Rap and Bingo Stereotypes in New YouTube Series

A rapper duo has visited Mecca Bingos Dagenham to experience one of Britain’s favorite pastimes. The visit took place earlier this year but was aired recently as part of the performers’ “Rappers Try Things” series.

Barney Artist and Guvna B launched the Rappers Try Things series in order to combat rap-related stereotypes and show that rappers could do much more than people usually associate them with. The series follows the two performers as they experience a variety of pastimes, ranging from chess to pottery.

The first episode of the series saw Barney Artist and Guvna B visit Mecca Bingos Dagenham and participate in a game night with big money on the line. Guvna and Barney, who had never played bingo before, were excited about experiencing a game he knew nothing about.

The episode started with the two rappers before the property. Both of them admitted that they didn’t really know how to play and how to win and entered the venue. They were quickly briefed on the rules of bingo by the Mecca Bingos staff and jumped into the action.

While playing, Guvna and Barney socialized with other players and gained a better grasp of the game. They asked other players what they liked about the game and how long they’d been playing it, improving their understanding of the bingo community.

From speaking with people and property staff, Guvna and Barney understood that bingo is all about the social aspect and not so much about winning big.

An Enriching Experience
At the end of the day, none of the rappers won anything. Despite that, the two felt really happy to have had the opportunity to experience bingo like they did. The rappers were also impressed by the friendliness of the people they encountered and socialized with.

Guvna said that the bingo experience reminded about an old job he had where he had to form friendships with older people from different backgrounds. This, he said, made him realize he needed to start hanging around with different people.

This made me realize that I need to start hanging around with different types of people, bro. Different ages, different backgrounds. And that’s not going to happen in the same places that I go. It’s going to happen at places like, here, you get me, bingo. So yeah, man, I loved it.
