Reaction: Resident Evil 9 Should Stay Far Away From Flops Like Re:Verse

Campaign is all we need

Today, Capcom has announced the impending closure of Re:Verse, its weird multiplayer spin-off that launched as an additional extra to 2021’s Resident Evil Village. Following Resident Evil 3’s bundled-in Resistance online mode, Capcom has now delivered two pretty pants RE multiplayer experiences in a row – and we sincerely hope they don’t bother with ‘Resident Evil 9′.

Over the last few years, Capcom has proven that it can deliver some pretty incredible single-player experiences with RE these days. Sure, a batch of these recent releases have been remakes with a certain framework to build from, but when you also throw in the well-received Resident Evil 7 and the aforementioned Village, it’s a pretty darn good lineup.

And, while Resistance and Re:Verse haven’t detracted from how good these single-player experiences have been, it does make you think about what could have been created instead – using their budgets and development timeframes. We might have had another incredible RE remake by now if these two didn’t exist!

To be honest, Resi and multiplayer has never really worked in a big way, has it? Even going back to the Xbox 360 days, the series has pumped out some strange and often lacklustre online entries, and we really think it’s time Capcom stopped bothering to be honest. In a world where online games need more and more content and developer attention, now’s probably the time to stop trying to make Resident Evil multiplayer a thing.

After a spell of strong rumours, things have gone pretty quiet on Resident Evil 9 right now, but we know the team is working away on the next main RE game. We also know that Capcom has expressed its desire to do more remakes after the incredible sprucing up of Resident Evil 4. Whatever their future plans are with this long-running series, we hope they’re finished with all of these online shenanigans. Resident Evil campaigns are all we need, Capcom!

Who here tried out Resistance or Re:Verse? Tell us why RE9 should stay well clear in the comments section down below.
